Iconic singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie, whose work has been covered and sampled by stars like Elvis Presley, Barbra Streisand, Courtney Love and Kanye West, is the subject of a documentary feature premiering at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, the festival revealed on Wednesday (August 10).
The previously announced Buffy Sainte-Marie: Carry It On takes an intimate look at the Indigenous singer’s journey and career as an artist, activist and teacher. The film is produced by Eagle Vision, White Pine Pictures and Paquin Entertainment.
Canadian filmmaker Madison Thomas (Taken, Ruthless Souls) directed the film, and also shares a writing credit with Andrea Warner (Buffy Sainte-Marie: The Authorized Biography).
